Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reached Pahalgam on Tuesday. He held a special cabinet meeting at the Pahalgam Club and Convention Center. This is the first time that a cabinet meeting has been held outside Srinagar or Jammu during the tenure of the Omar government. Abdullah said – There is a strange system in Jammu and Kashmir, because tourism is my responsibility, but security is not my responsibility. Tourism should be separate from the conflict, it should not be made a measure of normalcy. Omar said that three governments will have to work together here, the elected government of Jammu and Kashmir (Omar Abdullah’s government), the unelected government in Jammu and Kashmir (Lieutenant Governor’s administration) and the central government. Omar said the government is committed to the safe and successful completion of the Amarnath Yatra starting from the month of July. Other areas like Srinagar, Gulmarg and Yusmarg are open for business. Both travel and tourism can be restored together. On April 22, there was a terrorist attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran Valley. 26 tourists were killed in it. After the attack, there has been a huge decline in the number of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir. A meeting was held with the idea of boosting this. It is important for the central government to give a sense of security to the people. He said that if the central government cannot give a sense of security to the people (tourists), then how can tourism be started again in Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi had a meeting regarding tourism in Jammu and Kashmir a few days ago. During his first tenure as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2009 to 2014, the CM had held cabinet meetings in remote areas like Gurez, Machil, Tangdhar in North Kashmir and Rajouri and Poonch sectors of Jammu region. Omar said – Closing the tulip garden means closing the entire Kashmir. Omar said that he got a chance to talk to PM Modi during the meeting of Niti Aayog in Delhi. We discussed ways to restore tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. I cannot give full details here, but the Center will take some concrete steps on this. I want to thank the people of Kashmir, especially the people of Pahalgam, who condemned the terrorist attack on tourists on April 22 and stood together against it. For this, I thank them and salute them. Omar said – The last five to six weeks have been difficult for the country, especially for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, I suggest that we will conduct a security audit of different tourist places. He said that we will gradually start opening them. Like Aru, Betaab valleys, Thajwas glacier in Sonamarg, Badamwari and Tulip Garden in Srinagar. If we have to close the Tulip Garden, then we will have to close the entire Kashmir. CM Omar had said – Security was my responsibility, no words for apology After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Jammu and Kashmir government had called a one-day special assembly session on April 28. In this, a resolution was unanimously passed against the Pahalgam attack. The resolution said that such terrorist attacks are a direct attack on ‘Kashmiriyat’, unity, peace and goodwill of the country. The Chief Minister also gave an emotional speech of 26 minutes in the assembly. He had said- Security of Jammu and Kashmir is not the responsibility of the government elected by the people, but being the CM and Tourism Minister, I had invited them. Being the host, it was my responsibility to send them safely, but I could not. Read CM Omar’s full speech in the assembly… The Center had launched Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam attack.
