President Draupadi Murmu gave the second phase of Padma Awards at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. In this, 68 personalities including folk singer late Dr. Sharda Sinha were honored. During this, PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar were also present. In the ceremony, late folk singer of Bihar Dr. Sharda Sinha was posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan. At the same time, Sadhvi Ritambhara, who was involved in the Ram Mandir movement, was awarded the Padma Bhushan for social work. Earlier on April 28, in the first phase of the award ceremony, 71 personalities were honored with Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. In these, 4 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri awards were given. The government had announced 139 Padma Awards for 2025 before Republic Day. In these, 13 personalities including Sharda Sinha, Osamu Suzuki were given posthumous awards. 19 personalities were selected for Padma Bhushan. 113 personalities were honoured with Padma Shri this time. 23 of the Padma awardees were women. This honour for economist Bibek Debroy and former Chief Minister-Lok Sabha Speaker of Maharashtra Manohar Joshi was received by Debroy’s wife and Joshi’s son. These personalities got Padma Shri award in the second phase Padma Shri recipients included eminent immunologist and KGMU Vice Chancellor Nityananda, footballer Inivalappil Mani Vijayan, singer Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, actor Ashok Laxman Saraf, mask maker Reba Kanta Mahant and musician Ricky Gyan Cage. Theatre artist and acting trainer Barry John, parai player Velu Asan, businessman Sajjan Bhajanka, Dr. Neerja Bhatla, scientist Ajay V Bhatt, writer Sant Ram Deswal, spiritual leader Acharya Jonas Majety and Farooq Ahmed Mir were awarded Padma Shri. Padma Awards are announced on Republic Day Established in 1954, these awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day. These awards are given in various subjects and fields like art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports and civil service. Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan. His wife Farida received the award. Cricketer R Ashwin was awarded Padma Shri, hockey player Sreejesh was awarded Padma Bhushan.
