Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Thug Life’ is in trouble. Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) said on Thursday that it will not allow ‘Thug Life’ to be released in Karnataka until the actor publicly apologizes for his controversial remarks about the Kannada language. Speaking to reporters, KFCC President M Narasimhalu said that many Kannada groups have demanded a ban on his film. We discussed the matter together and we decided that he should apologize. Chamber officials are trying to meet him and talk. We agree that what he did was wrong. At the same time, former KFCC President Sa Ra Govindu said that if the actor does not apologize by May 30, then KFCC will not allow the film to be released here. He said, ‘We have no sympathy for Kamal Haasan. If he does not publicly apologize today or tomorrow, we will support Kannada activists and protest fiercely. We will not allow the film to be released under any circumstances.’ Kannada language did not originate from Tamil Actress Jayamala, who was the head of KFCC between 2008-2010, said, ‘Whenever there is a language dispute, all Kannada people should unite. It is our duty. What Kamal Haasan said intentionally or unintentionally was wrong. Kannada is not originated from Tamil.’ She also said that there is nothing wrong in expressing regret for the mistake instead of justifying it. We are trying to talk to him and trying to make him understand that his words were very hurtful to Kannada people. It is his moral responsibility to apologize. Pointing towards the Kannada actor, during the audio launch event of his new film ‘Thug Life’ in Chennai on May 24, South superstar Kamal Haasan pointed towards Kannada actor Shiva Rajkumar and said- ‘Shiva Rajkumar is like my family, that’s why he is here. I started my talk with life, relations and Tamil. Your language (Kannada) has originated from Tamil, so you are also a part of us.’
