Harvard University has got interim relief of 30 days in the ban on admission of foreign students. US President Donald Trump had decided to end Harvard’s eligibility to admit foreign students, which has been stayed by the Federal Court for the time being. A hearing was held on this issue on Thursday, in which the court gave its verdict and said that the university can continue enrolling students for the time being. Harvard had said that if it is not allowed to admit foreign students, it will affect about 25% of the university’s students. The university’s lawyers told the court that this decision was taken suddenly and without any legal process, whereas according to the rules, it is necessary to give reasons to the department and give 30 days’ time. What is the matter? The Trump administration accused Harvard of promoting anti-Semitism on campus and working in collaboration with the Communist Party of China. It was also alleged that the university has created an environment that incites the ideology of the students. Trump said in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Harvard has to remain disciplined. Harvard’s lawyers argued in court that this decision of the Trump administration is full of vindictive action, which directly attacks the academic freedom and freedom of expression of the university. The lawyers said that this decision is a violation of federal rules, because the department suddenly canceled the certification without giving any concrete reason.
