Aviation expert Sanat Kaul has raised questions on the preliminary investigation report of Air India Flight AI171. He said that this report does not seem to be correct. It does not even have the necessary signatures, whereas it is necessary. Kaul says that such a pilot should be included in this investigation team who has complete understanding of Boeing 787 or at least 737 aircraft. He also stressed that the investigation should be done according to the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), especially Annex 13. Experienced pilots should also be included in it. The government said that this investigation is being done under the rules of ICAO and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Rules of 2017. It is being headed by the Home Secretary, which includes many senior officials. In fact, on June 12, Flight AI 171 going from Ahmedabad to London collided with the building of a medical hostel shortly after takeoff. 270 people died in this. Pilot union also questioned the credibility of the investigation
Earlier, Federation of Indian Pilots and Airline Pilots Association of India had also questioned the report. They say that experienced pilots have not been included in the investigation team. Pilot’s mistake has already been considered the reason, which is unfair. Pilot union alleges that the report was leaked to the media without any necessary signature, which raises questions on transparency and weakens the credibility of the investigation. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released the initial investigation report on the Ahmedabad plane crash at around 2.30 am on Friday night. This organization of the Government of India investigates air accidents. The AAIB report states that the Air India Dreamliner going to London with the code AI-171 had taken the last flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad. Right after the flight, the pilot had registered a technical alert named ‘STAB POS XDCR’. This alert means that the sensor that tells the balance of the plane can fail. This sensor tells the condition of the horizontal stabilizer (rear wing that balances the pitch) of the plane. If this data is not correct, then important systems like autopilot, pitch control and stall protection start giving wrong commands. This mistake can happen especially in critical phases like takeoff and initial climb. The pilot gave this alert at 11:17 am to allow the flight one hour after the critical alert and the plane was cleared for flight at 12:40 pm. That is, the plane was cleared for flight by claiming to fix the problem in just one hour. The same plane took off from Ahmedabad to London at 1:38 pm and just 30 seconds later both the engines stopped and it crashed on the medical hostel building near the airport. A total of 270 people, including 241 people on the plane, were killed in the accident. Only one passenger survived in the plane. Regarding the initial report of the accident, the government has said that it is being studied. No conclusion should be drawn on this yet. Fuel switches of both engines were turned off within 3 seconds of takeoff
What happened in the last moments with the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad? The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has mentioned this in its 15-page initial report. According to it, both the pilots were experienced and fit for flying. The plane was also fit. The engines were changed some time ago. However, the fuel switches were turned off within 3 seconds of takeoff. The report has not reached any conclusion, but the direction of the investigation is becoming clear to a large extent. Engine fuel cut off is unusual. In such a situation, investigation will increase on both technical and human error. Failure or late activation of the critical recovery system is also under investigation.
