Goods train derailed in Tamil Nadu, 18 bogies burnt: 52 bogies had diesel, 40 were separated; Tiruvallur railway station area evacuated

A diesel freight train going from Manali to Karnataka via Jolarpet derailed near Tiruvallur railway station in Tamil Nadu. After this it caught fire. Initially five bogies caught fire. Later these 18 bogies caught fire. The incident happened at 5.30 am on Sunday. There were 52 bogies in the freight train. District Collector M Pratap said that 40 bogies have been separated from the burning train. At the same time, people living around the railway station were evacuated and taken to a safe place. The cause of the fire has not been known yet. Several fire brigade teams were called. The incident led to suspension of rail operations on the Chennai Arakkonam section connecting Chennai to Bangalore, Kerala and Renigunta/Tirupati. 12 mail/express trains originating or going to Chennai Central were cancelled, and many others were either diverted or stopped midway.
