Fourteen former international cricket captains from five countries have written a letter to the Pakistani government regarding the ill health of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The 73-year-old has been in jail since August 2023. The letter was signed by Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Greg Chappell, Belinda Clark, Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Ian Chappell, Allan Border, Michael Brearley, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Clive Lloyd, Steve Waugh, and John Wright. According to a Hindustan Times report, the 14 legendary captains have appealed to Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to provide Imran with proper treatment. According to the report, no former Pakistani captain has signed the letter. However, last week, several former Pakistani cricketers, including Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shahid Afridi, demanded proper treatment for Imran on social media. Imran Khan captained the 1992 World Cup-winning Pakistani team. Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has lost approximately 85% of his vision in one eye. This was revealed in an investigation ordered by the Pakistani Supreme Court. Supreme Court-appointed lawyer Salman Safdar stated in his report that Imran Khan had been complaining to prison authorities about blurred vision for several months. His vision was normal until October 2025, but later his vision in his right eye suddenly deteriorated. During the investigation, an eye specialist from PIMS Hospital was called in. Doctors discovered a blood clot in Imran’s eye, causing serious damage. Despite treatment and injections, he now has only approximately 15% vision left in his right eye. Imran says he has not been allowed to seek treatment from a private doctor. Report: Imran Khan suffering from mental stress According to reports, Imran Khan has been kept in continuous isolation in Adiala Jail since October 2023. The former PM’s lawyer stated that he has not undergone regular blood tests. He was not taken to a dentist in two years, despite repeated requests. During those visits, he appeared extremely distressed and mentally stressed. The report also stated that restrictions were imposed on his family and lawyers. Despite court orders, his sisters were not allowed to meet him regularly. However, after a recent change in prison administration, he has been allowed to meet his wife for 30 minutes once a week. He was allowed to speak to his sons, Qasim and Suleman, by phone only twice in 2025. For the past five months, he has not been allowed to meet with his main lawyer and legal team. The report concludes by warning that if a better medical examination, along with the restoration of access to family and lawyers, is not immediately provided, his health could be at serious risk. Claim: Imran Khan has Central Retinal Vein Occlusion Disease. Imran Khan’s party, PTI, reported last month that Imran Khan has been diagnosed with a condition called Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye. The party stated that medical experts believe Imran Khan could lose his eyesight permanently if he doesn’t receive proper treatment. CRVO is a serious eye condition that involves a blockage in the main vein that carries blood from the retina. The retina is the part of the eye responsible for vision. Once the vein is blocked, blood begins to accumulate in the retina, causing swelling and bleeding. If this condition persists for a long time, the retina can suffer permanent damage. According to experts, the risk of vision loss in CRVO is higher if treatment is delayed, especially if the blockage is complete, the retina becomes severely swollen, or there are repeated bleeding. In many cases, if treatment is not received within 24 to 72 hours, the damage can be permanent. Immediate treatment is essential for CRVO. CRVO cannot be treated with standard medications or in small clinics. It requires immediate attention from a retina specialist. During treatment, special injections are administered to reduce inflammation within the eye. In some cases, laser treatment is also required. Furthermore, it is important to control conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol, as these are considered major causes of blockages. Treatment of these conditions requires operating theater facilities, a sterile environment, and experienced specialists. Imran Khan has been in prison for three years. He faces more than 100 cases and has been in prison since August 2023. He has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in corruption cases, including charges of selling government gifts (the Toshakhana case) and leaking government secrets. Imran is accused of selling billions of rupees worth of Pakistani government land to the Al-Qadir Trust at a low price. He was arrested on May 9, 2023, in this case. Subsequent attacks on several key military installations across the country followed. Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a case against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and six other individuals in December 2023 in the Al-Qadir Trust case. However, when this case was filed against Imran, he was already lodged in Adiala Jail in the Toshakhana case.
