TVK chief-actor Vijay’s wife files for divorce; accuses husband of having an affair with an actress; 27 years of marriage, two children included

Sangita, wife of Tamil superstar and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, filed a divorce petition in the Chengalpattu Family Court on February 24, 2026. The petition accuses Vijay of having an illicit relationship with an actress. The court accepted the petition and referred the case to the Family Welfare Committee. The couple had been living separately for the past two years. They were married in 1999 and have been married for 27 years. The next hearing on the matter will be held in court on April 20. Vijay’s team and Sangeeta have not yet issued any statement on the matter. Vijay and Sangeeta have been married for nearly 27 years. The couple tied the knot on August 25, 1999. They soon fell in love and decided to marry. They were married in both Hindu and Christian religions at that time. In 2000, the couple welcomed their first child, Jason Sanjay, and in 2005, they had a daughter. Vijay sparked controversy after a stampede at a rally. On September 27, a large crowd attended a rally for actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party, the Tamilaga Vetti Kazhagam (TVK), in Karur, Tamil Nadu. It was reported that a 9-year-old girl had gone missing. Vijay appealed to the police and his supporters from the stage to find her, leading to a stampede that resulted in the deaths of 41 people. Trapped in the crowd, many people struggled to breathe, and several activists and activists fainted. Seeing the situation worsen, Vijay stopped his speech and appealed for calm. He then left. Vijay’s rally had permission for 10,000 people. The administration had anticipated a gathering of 50,000, but approximately 120,000 people gathered. The CBI questioned the actor for six hours in the case. On January 12th of this year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) questioned him for six hours in connection with the stampede at the rally. Vijay arrived at the CBI headquarters in New Delhi at 11:29 a.m. in a black Range Rover amid tight security and left around 6:15 p.m.
