Hockey India on Wednesday announced an 18-member Indian team for the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in China. Harmanpreet Singh will captain the team in the tournament. 10 players who won bronze medals in the Paris Olympics have been given a place in this team. While 5 players have been rested. The tournament will be played in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia from 8 to 17 September. India will play its first match against hosts China on 8 September. The Indian team is the defending champion of this tournament. The team won the title by defeating Malaysia in the final match of the tournament last year. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Singh, the Indian hockey team won the bronze medal in the recently concluded Paris Olympics. The Indian team defeated Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match. This was the Indian team’s second consecutive bronze medal in the Olympics. In the Tokyo Olympics too, the team won bronze by defeating Germany.
