India defeated South Africa by 17 runs in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the series. South Africa elected to bowl at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday. India scored 349 runs, thanks to Virat Kohli’s century. In response, the visiting team put up a fight, but could only manage 332 runs. For India, Kohli scored 135, Rohit Sharma 57, and captain KL Rahul 60. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets, Harshit Rana three, and Arshdeep Singh two. For South Africa, Marco Jansen, Nandre Burger, Corbin Bosch, and Ottniel Baartman took two wickets each. Facing a large target, South Africa had a poor start, losing three wickets for just 11 runs. Matthew Breetzki then took control of the innings. He was supported by Marco Jansen, but both were dismissed in the same over. Corbin Bosch eventually scored a fifty to bring the team close to victory, but his innings was in vain. The second ODI of the series will be played in Raipur on December 3rd. In the Indian innings, Kohli scored his 52nd ODI century, becoming the batsman with the most centuries in a single format. Virat surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who has 51 centuries in Test cricket.
